Suns News Vol 1
Michael Thomas
Needless to say it has been a busy period for everyone at the Suns. This past month we saw Netball kick off which included many players taking the court for the first time. AusKick started with a bang, we now have over 150 registered Auskickers at the Suns this season. NetSetGo began in record numbers for the Suns and Junior Football completed their round 1.
Football
Round one football saw mixed results. All the Under 9’s teams won their first game which was a terrific start for many first gamers. Both the U10 teams got rolled by some pretty good opposition. The U11’s battled hard but were eventually over run while the U13’s launched their indigenous jumper with a smoking ceremony in front of a large crowd but eventually were beaten on the day.
Netball
After the Easter break Netball returned to a very eager audience. All the teams are settled and full now with players looking to have a great season. The grading games are just about complete so we should see some repeated competition and close games for the rest of the season.
Social
The Suns first ever parents social night is fast approaching. Saturday May 18th will see Dolly’s Disco Bingo hit the Grant Pavilion. Think Bingo, but with music. Only $25 per head, BYO. So let’s all make sure we get a table per team at least, bring your dancing shoes and smiles. Details on the club Facebook page, book via the try booking link.
AusKick Grid Game
Suns have a terrific opportunity to have a run on Marvel Stadium this Sunday for the Blues vs Kangas half time grid game. If your AusKicker is interested and in grade 1 or above please let Joel know ASAP.
Hoodie Order
The 2nd and final Hoodie order will be placed early next week to ensure everyone has their gear before it gets really cold. If you would like a Hoodie please email your order to president@surfcoastsuns.com and transfer $60 to the club prior to delivery. Details on the Facebook page, plus you should have all received an email. This is for everyone, Auskickers and NetSetGo’s included.
Friday Night Cheap Eats
Club sponosr Town and Country North Torquay is offering 10% off your order on Friday nights after AusKick when you mention the club. Sausage for entree, Pizza for main.
Save the Date
Suns Golf Day is scheduled for August 8th this year at the Sands. We have limited spots so start to think about your 4. More details to come.
Volunteers
Like many junior sporting clubs the Surf Coast Suns is run by volunteers. Every Football and Netball, every AusKick and NetSetGo session requires parents to get involved in one way or another. Be it assisting the coaching, chipping in on the BBQ, in the canteen, packing up after the game or training. If you are available please don’t stand back, step forward and introduce yourself to a coach, team manager or coordinator. We understand that you may not be able to help every time, but when you can all assistance is appreciated.
