Sir Doug Nicholls Round on the Surf Coast

While the greater AFL community celebrated Sir Doug Nicholls round through all AFL games this past weekend, the Surf Coast Suns celebrated the weekend in their own way.
Wearing their Indigenous jumper, the only club in the region to have one, the Suns U13’s took on Leopold on the Grenville Oval in the Banyul Warri Sports Precinct.
Leopold took the points in a terrific tight game, defeating the suns 5.6.36 to 4.9.33.
‘The purpose of the jumper is to create conversation and awareness of local indigenous sensitivities, and recognize the important history of Aboriginal Australia’, said club president Michael Thomas. ‘We are very proud to show where we stand as a club and teach our players about ongoing current events such as National Reconciliation Week and the establishment Victorian Treaty Advancement Commission.’
The Suns will wear their Indigenous Jumper throughout the season.
