2020 Season Update
Michael Thomas
On behalf of everyone at the Surf Coast Suns, we hope you are well in these crazy times. This week marks the dates which all our Football, Netball, AusKick and NetSetGo programs were scheduled to commence. I know from personal experience how frustrated the kids are who just want to play a game.
At this time the season is delayed not cancelled, to be reviewed on May 31st. Whether we will have a season, be it reduced or extended, and what that will look like we just don’t know at this time. I have been in conversation with AFL Barwon about the many different contingencies which are in play at the moment, however at this time we just need to wait until the end of May to see what is possible.
Given the uncertainty around the length of seasons, we have been advised hold player registration fees and revisit this issue at the end of season once the season structure has been confirmed. AFL Barwon has a detailed FAQ link on their web site which may assist in answering some of your questions, www.aflbarwon.com.au/covid-19-and-afl-barwon-faqs/ alternatively please feel free to reach out to admin@surfcoastsuns.com.
In the meantime, we can get creative at home. Keep an eye on the Suns website/Facebook and Instagram, we will have stay at home exercise programs from Jo King Personal training, plus will soon have some AusKick sessions up to give you some ideas.
There are plenty of online resources from Netball Victoria, Auskick, NetSetGo, plus additional yoga/stretch classes etc. If you have an area to improve, now is a great time to make that your strength. One thing we all have at the moment is time.
Even patch together some videos with team mates. You may have seen teams having a virtual game, passing the ball to the left of each other. If you can get that together send it in and we can share it within our community.
If all else fails, get a ball in your hands, throw it against the wall, practice your passing, your handball, practice bouncing, collecting a low ball, etc. Things which you may think is silly to do by yourself in the back yard may make you a better player for when we resume.
Stay Safe, Stay Well and watch this space for more information around our return.
