Update on the 2020 Football Season
Michael Thomas
The Surf Coast Suns Committee is meeting regularly to review the ability to return to training and we wanted to provide you with an update.
Following the latest communication we have received from AFL Barwon and AFL Victoria we, as a committee, have decided for our junior football teams (U9’s, U10’s, U11’s, U12 Girls & U13’s) NOT to return to training YET.
The feedback received from coaches and club volunteers showed that we should hold off training in the current challenging conditions until we get further clarification as to a season start date.
In addition to the restrictions of numbers at training we are also required to keep track of everyone in attendance, including parents standing on the side line, time of arrival, time of departure, limited use of equipment (balls and cones only), disinfecting equipment after each session, single entry and exit points etc.
As you can imagine it is a bigger commitment than just coming down to have a kick with the team mates and
therefore our current decision is to hold it off for now.
Regarding refunds for the 2020 season, we are waiting to hear from our governing bodies to see when there will be a season start and for how many weeks it will run. If you are dealing with financial hardship please contact president@surfcoastsuns.com to discuss. This will all be handled with the utmost discretion.
We are keeping our fingers and toes crossed for an official update on the 9th of June, hopefully announcing the start date of this years’ season and some easing of the training guidelines.
In the meantime, keep kicking, stay safe and reach out if you need to.
Regards,
The Surf Coast Suns Committee
